How we paint cabinets
Cabinets take more wear than any wall in the house, so the prep matters more than the colour. Grease and old lacquer are the reason most painted cabinets chip; we take the time to clean and prime properly so the finish stays put.
- Doors, drawers and hardware removed, labelled and bagged
- Counters, floors and appliances covered; boxes masked off
- Degreased with a cabinet cleaner, then scuff-sanded
- Bonding primer so the finish grips factory lacquer and laminate
- Two coats of cabinet-grade enamel for a hard, smooth finish

Cabinet painting questions
How long does it take to paint kitchen cabinets?+
Most kitchens take about 4–7 working days, depending on the number of doors and drawers and how long each coat needs to cure. We give you the schedule in your written quote, and the kitchen stays usable for most of the job.
What paint do you use on cabinets?+
A cabinet-grade enamel, such as a waterborne alkyd or urethane-modified enamel, over a bonding primer. These level out smooth and cure much harder than wall paint, so they stand up to daily kitchen use. We name the exact product and sheen in your quote.
Can you paint oak, laminate or thermofoil cabinets?+
Oak and other solid-wood or MDF cabinets paint very well; oak grain can be left visible or filled for a smoother look. Laminate can be painted with the right bonding primer. Peeling thermofoil usually can't be painted reliably, so we'll tell you honestly at the estimate if replacement doors make more sense.
Can you paint bathroom vanities and built-ins too?+
Yes. Vanities, laundry-room cabinets, built-in shelving and fireplace millwork get the same clean, degrease, prime and enamel process as kitchen cabinets.
